I was about to sit down and write a really vulnerable post about asking for help. But I realized I had kind of a vulnerability hangover from this past week. So instead I’m taking you on a little top secret tour of what my house looks like at the very moment I’m writing this. What it looks like when I don’t move out the ugly stuff for a photo shoot. What it looks like when I don’t have a professional photographer to get the lighting just right. Enjoy!
Dining Room
This is where I’m sitting right now as I write this. I haven’t been as good as I normally am at drinking the entire contents of this big ass water bottle lately. My mother recently gifted me the tansu (chest) on the right. It’s old and rickety but I’ve been fascinated by it since I was little as it used to be filled with random holiday decor, tissue paper, and a creepy Madame Alexander doll my mom played with as a child. I’m currently washing every single thing in the house (duvet inserts, pillows, etc) so I’ve laundered the drapes that normally go in my bathroom and they’re on the dining table waiting to be ironed.
Living Room
Satie likes to sit by the window and watch everyone go by all day. I sit on my computer looking up from time to time to watch her watching people. Last month, I considered selling those patterned ochre poufs (old West Elm) for $100 to make money to pay rent but decided at the last minute I liked them too much to get rid of them for that little (potential buyer Ashleigh was FURIOUS).
I realized I never have shot/shared my bathroom. It’s cute. I’m guessing this used to be a tub but I don’t care it’s a stall shower because I’d probably feel too guilty to take a bath here anyway. I have wanted to swap out that light fixture since I moved in but haven’t gotten around to it. Landlords love putting in these pedestal sinks, and they’re gorgeous, but they are so useless when it comes to having a place to set anything down so I added some Ikea shelving for all my toiletries.
I just shot my bedroom so it’s feeling extra soothing lately. On the dresser: Adderall, Buspar, a stupid Apple speaker I hate, and a white noise machine I’ve been using every night that I quite like.
My roommate was in the process of moving out when he had to go to Arizona to deal with a family emergency. In the meantime I’ve changed the bedding. The duvet is all rumpled because this is Satie’s second favorite place to lounge during the day. This home is oddly soothing and quiet for being in the middle of a giant city.
I love the kitchen here. I’ve been doing laundry for three straight days. I took a lot of the accessories from the open shelving to Londo Lodge for a photo shoot so they’re looking a little bare. I’ll probably reorganize them a bit over the weekend because I’m hosting a birthday party for my friend here on Sunday.
I’ve been working hard on my backyard. All the plants needed to be chopped down substantially, as they’ve grown a bunch over the wet winter. I need to re-frost that window, which sits inside my neighbors garage. He’s never in there, but there’s something creepy about a window that peers directly into your backyard, especially because I leave my drapes open all the time and it really feels like it’s part of the home’s interior. I draped a big quilt over a dry rack to save electricity. Those thick blankets take forever to dry. In the winter I often just drape them over a door to dry because otherwise I have to keep adjusting them in the dryer and that’s annoying. The little rug on the ground is for the kitchen. It’s not washable so I have to rinse it off with the hose when it gets bits of food on it.
That is all. That’s what life is looking like for me today. Have a great weekend!
even "not styled" your house is so inviting and beautiful. Nice to see a peek behind the style curtain 😂😘
Your home is so peaceful and inviting. You’d probably twitch all over if you saw the daily clutter in mine.
