If you watch basically any documentary about the 2000s, a trending theme is that we used to treat celebrities, especially female celebrities, like punching bags. All the insults thrown at Jessica Simpson and Britney Spears for having boobs or being “sluts” seems totally retrograde now. We look back at the types of jokes comedians made at the expense of Rodney King or Monica Lewinsky and cringe. It seems generally like culture has gotten a lot less shitty. So why the fuck is everyone piling on Katy Perry right now?
