Welcome to The Lost Arrow, a collection of stories by Orlando Soria. Orlando Storya if you will. I’m sorry.

Who is Orlando Soria?

Hi, I’m Gay! I’m also an interior designer, bestselling author (“Get It Together!” available wherever FINER books are sold), and TV host. My most recent TV shows are “Build Me Up” and “Unspouse My House,” on HGTV/Discovery+. I live in Los Angeles with my absolutely stunning American Staffordshire Terrier (Pit Bull) Ms Saturday Olivia Soria. You can also find me on Instagram or check out my website (which is boring but look at it anyway).

What’s a Substack?

Honestly, I have no idea. Someone just told me the best way to describe is “OnlyFans for nerds.” It’s basically a platform that allows people like me to create and publish content that can be monetized without the involvement of corporate sponsorships. If you’re sick of ads all over Instagram, you’ve come to the right place. This is an ad free zone.

Should I Subscribe?

Yes, I need your eyeballs. Both paid and unpaid subscriptions help me, so don’t feel bad if paid subscription isn’t in your budget. Well, I mean, feel bad but only for like a microsecond before moving on to yelling at your husband or whatever.

To make things easier, here is a button that allows you to subscribe using your human fingers:

Why Pay to Subscribe When You Can Get it for Free?

Good question. Firstly, paying to subscribe is a direct way you can support me in this creative endeavor. If you like the things I post here or anywhere else (Instagram or my website), most of those things cost time and money to create. And that money has to come from somewhere. Paying for content is a pretty powerful weapon against EVERYTHING being a paid ad, so vote with your dollars!

In addition to helping battle the current media hellscape in which content producers like me have been forced to become corporate pawns to get by, subscribing also gets you exclusive content, the ability to comment on posts and participate in the community, and access to the accompanying podcast (coming soon) in which I will read the posts aloud, using my gay voice.

My childhood home is located on Lost Arrow Road right below Yosemite Falls (which I could see out my window, pictured above). The Lost Arrow Spire is located just to the right of Yosemite Falls. Class dismissed.

What is “The Lost Arrow”?

“The Lost Arrow” is the name of the road I grew up in Yosemite Valley, Lost Arrow Road. Lost Arrow Road sits near the base of Yosemite Falls, which I could hear roaring outside my window as a child. Lost Arrow Road is named for the Lost Arrow Spire, which sits next to Yosemite Falls. I grew up on Ahwahnechee land. The Ahwahnechee are the Native American people who lived in Yosemite, predominantly composed of members of the Miwok, Northern Paiute, and Kucadikadi Mono Lake People. The Lost Arrow spire is named for a Miwok legend about a pair of star-crossed lovers, an arrow that was meant to be a signal, and the couple’s tragic fate. The story is a bit too complex to summarize here, but I will be doing a more in-depth essay about it soon. While the story has a devastating ending, I always loved the conceit of a “Lost Arrow,” something inherently so directional and yet still lost.

But wait, why subscribe?

Ma’am! I literally just told you. But also if you subscribe you get my essays and content delivered to your email inbox and can stay up to date without having to check the website every day to see if I posted. It just makes it a lot easier to be lazy but not miss a thing!
