I think about this a lot, especially since I'd love to make some changes to my house that one can actually see...but, instead, we have to keep putting our money into boring but essential fixes. We have a new furnace, new pipes, rehabbed septic system (in LA!), and we are about to get a new roof. Meanwhile, my kitchen cabinets are falling off....and we don't have any money left to fix them. Sigh. Someday, someday...
OMG same! I have had to replace the heater (after fixing it), the water/well system, the septic, the propane tank, and so much of the rest of the "invisible" stuff too! It's so frustrating when you have aesthetic goals as well! I feel you!
I don't think our home will ever be "done", and it will definitely never be perfect, but we have almost reached the point of "good enough", and I appreciate this stage so much.
That’s a fantastic photo of the stairs and Miss Sweetness.
I always appreciate you “lifting the curtain” in the designer’s mind. Being “done” seems so….final. I think of it as an evolution of needs.😊

Orlando, I think you would like my book, which echos a lot of these ideas. I would happily send to you. The never-done project — just like us!
Sounds wonderful! Email me hello@orlandosoria.com
I really enjoy reading your writing and the evolution of ideas and personal insight you have.
I needed this message with respect to my own home and it’s very long and frustrating “middle”. Thanks for sharing this perspective!!
