"I had something pretty traumatic happen over the weekend that left me physically injured and I am kind of in a state about it. " I'm sorry this happened to you and hope you heal soon, and I'm just here to say I love your work and you don't have to be funny every day--just be you. <3
I hope whatever happened to you is a tiny blip in the greater scheme of things and you're able to move forward with ease.
I remember "Fernando" as I'd just survived an horrific cyclone (Australian hurricane) and the whole town was devastated. I had just turned 12. The song brought me comfort at that time and still does.
So many key moments, brought back by the sound of a song.
I haven’t seen or thought about Muriel’s Wedding in ages! I must watch it again now. But the way you describe a song bringing back memories is so poignant. I have also cried in inappropriate places because a song brought back such a special memory. This made me feel so nostalgic for my childhood. (I am two years older than you.) It made me long for my grandparents in a way I haven’t thought about them in some time. When they were still relatively young, in my youth, and able to be active parts of my life. It is sad to think about, but those were really happy times. Thank you for bringing back those memories for me today, Orlando ❤️
Thank you so much for sharing! My parents both worked in Salinas their entire working lives (I mostly grew up in Carmel Valley - because my Dad did too). I know exactly where your grandparents lived! I loved your take on memory. It is so true. What a lovely post.
I was at an Australian regional suburban Chinese restaurant the other day and was honestly expecting Diedre Chambers to walk in. What a coincidence! I love, love, love Muriel's Wedding and am compelled to yell "Goodbye Porpoise Spit!" whenever I leave town.
I like both the humorous and the sad things you write. I think one of the reasons your followers enjoy you so much is that they sense your genuineness and you’re relatable because you write from the heart.

Wishing you well, Orlando. 😊

BAHAHAHA! "Dierdre Chambers! WHAT A COINCIDENCE!" was def a catch phrase in the Soria household. Those assholes LOL.

I love this newsletter, Orlando. And this is a really beautiful story. Thinking about you and hope you get better.
I have guilt and sadness about my grandmother too. You don’t have that insight when you are younger. Still sad even though we understand this 😔
I’d rather eat razor blades than have a drink with you. And I’m not alone. I’m with MURIEL.
Best movie. So funny but also pretty dark! I loved it.
Thanks for this fun romp through Muriel Lane.
Ps I love sentimental Orlando.
